Student Trips

Intermediate and Middle School field trips afford unique opportunities for student bonding and exploration, while reinforcing and enhancing key curricular learning areas. Students get to know peers and teachers in a new context. Memories and friendships that last a lifetime are strengthened on these very special excursions.

8th Grade: Israel

Following graduation, the 8th Grade travels to Israel for a two-week adventure of a lifetime. They visit the Karmiel-Misgav region, Jerusalem, Masada, the Dead Sea, and many more destinations. This fully immersive trip is the capstone of their Community Day School education. The connection with Israel is core to being Jewish, and the Middle School years represent the best time to solidify that connection. CDS graduates are prepared to see and feel Israel with eyes and hearts wide open, to hear and know of all the conflicts, to have the facts and the history at their fingertips. They tell us time and again how their CDS education and 8th Grade trip to Israel prepared them to be resilient, confident, and informed Jews who love Israel and can articulate Israel's place in the world and in their lives.

You can have a taste of their Israel experience at, where their trip is captured for you through photos, video, and words.

Some of the destinations include: the monuments and memorials on the National Mall, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, several Smithsonian museums, the Kennedy Center, Mount Vernon, and other historic attractions. Last spring, the students were joined for part of their trip by scholars from the Higher Achievement after-school program.
