Iana Dukova was born in Bulgaria and lived there until her early 30s. From 1983-1991, she was a member of the Bulgarian National Team in fencing. She was a multiple junior and senior national champion, both team and individual. In 1997, she came to Pittsburgh and started the Three Rivers Fencing Center. From 1997-2014, she coached the Carnegie Mellon University fencing club and later became a coach at Winchester Thurston Upper School. She recently started the Pittsburgh Fencers Club. She says: "We, the fencers and coaches of Pittsburgh Fencers Club are extremely excited to introduce fencing to the students of CDS. Fencing is one of the oldest Olympic sports--fast-paced, quick decision-making under pressure, team work, building strategies, mental discipline are essential parts of our training. Pirates, swashbucklers, musketeers, Olympic fencers - all have those skills in common! Come join us for a class of fencing, fitness, and fun!" All fencing equipment will be provided.
