CDS Sports PhilosophY

CDS has a "no cut" policy, which means that any student who attends, practices, and fully participates is welcome on the team. Playing time is determined by each coach, with every effort made to give all athletes game experience. Being “good” at a sport is not a prerequisite for participating; our focus is on teamwork and effort.

In the words of CDS Athletic Director from this year's Sports Recognition Event:

"Mindfulness is being aware of what you are saying, what you are doing, and how you are feeling. It builds relationships and fosters healthy behaviors. I am most proud that our coaches teach a mindful attitude here at CDS. We always don't have a winning season (if we look at win/loss record), but we do develop winners. We always don't agree with the refs' calls, but we understand that he or she is human and mistakes are made. We have a diversity of talent on our teams, from the serious travel team athlete to the first timer. And it's important that everyone is accepted and valued for who they are and what they can contribute. I believe in the value of sport in developing character and CDS sports is a great place for that development to happen."
