Early Childhood Educator (Full-Time)

Community Day School (CDS), an independent age 3 through 8th Grade Jewish day school in Squirrel Hill, seeks a full-time teacher for its 3-year-old classroom.

The Early Childhood Education program at CDS provides a warm and nurturing environment where children can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally while enjoying a vibrant Jewish experience.

Requirements include:

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent of 2 years experience in an Early Childhood setting
  • Experience within a Reggio Emilia-inspired classroom preferred
  • Current clearances

Job responsibilities:

  • Help create a caring, nurturing learning environment inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy; this environment should encourage the active exploration of materials, incorporate the children’s curiosities, support the development of social interaction, and cultivate sustained engagement with other children, adults, and activities
  • Provide physical caregiving and ensure safety of the children
  • Help create developmentally appropriate experiences based on the curiosities of the children to support their growth and learning
  • Maintain responsibility for order and cleanliness of the learning environment
  • Attend all scheduled staff and faculty meetings
  • Continue learning through experience and collaboration with other educators in addition to attending professional development as requested
  • Work cooperatively in a co-teaching environment
  • Be able to lift child of up to 50 pounds from floor to waist height
  • Perform other duties as needed

Substitute Teachers

Daily substitute teachers for all grades and subjects are needed. These positions require elementary certifications for Lower School general studies and secondary certifications in major subject area for Middle School, as well as a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
